ILION FISH AND GAME CLUB

2006

DUES--JUNIOR DUES-REGULAR DUES-SENIOR
12 - 17 -- $10.00 18 - 64 -- $30.00 65 - up -- $15.00

Welcome to 2006 !! HELP !! Once again we are asking members to assist us in a raffle to help pay our $4000+ tax bill. We need your help. Enclosed you will find five raffle tickets. Please Sell them, Buy them, or return them. (Please do not discard them) along with your dues payment as soon as possible. If you can sell more tickets and help lessen the burden on the Club's finances, please include a note with your first return and more tickets will be sent to you. Thanks to you, and your continued involvement we were able to meet our tax obligations. But, with rising costs and taxes, and insurance, without your continued support we will have a tough time meeting fixed expenses this year. Please do what you can to make this project a success. For some of you, paying your dues and selling these tickets is the only involvement you have in the Club. We appreciate your help and remember that 50 to 60% of the winning tickets are from the membership mailings. Please also note the change in dues. A motion to raise the dues was made and carried after a lengthly discussion of our club's finances. We have to do more to bring income into the coffers. Our dues and raffle only begin to pay our fixed expenses. Across the board increases for shooting, the bar and kitchen and rifle range will only take up a little of the slack. We need you to be more active. Bring your ideas to the menthly meeting. Get involved so that we might all enjoy the club more fully.

OTHER NEWS: Remington Arms held a very succesful "Step Outside" program this summer. Over 500 employees and guests discovered the fun of shooting and other associated outdoors sports. Gander Mountain held a vendor forum here at the end of August that saw over 100 employees "go to school" to get more information about the products they sell. Put a note in the back of your mind that the Club's 100th Anniversary Year is 2007. We will be looking forward to your joining us to make it a banner year--your ideas, your work and your company.

FARM & GROUNDS - Larry Capes - Chairman
2005 was another busy year. The annual spring cleanup went very well considering the lack of workers. Thanks to all who helped out. Thanks to Charlie Pierce, our newest groundskeeper, for keeping our grounds mowed and trimmed. The excellent appearance of our grounds brought compliments from members and visitors alike. The club's appearance is one of the finest selling points when it comes to signing up new members. Thanks to John Booth, Dave Mackin, Andy Bocchino, and again, Ron Bunce and Mike Derber for their work painting and respooling the flag pole. We have a resurfaced entry road thanks to the efforts of Ron Bunce Paving and our own Al Paniccia for fronting the money to accomplish this job. We constructed a new feeder pond to supply fresh water to our derby pond; hopefully this fresh water will help control our algae problem. Thanks to Dave and Andy, again, and to Ron Bunce and John Latt for the use of their BobCat and TrackHoe respectively. As you can plainly see, as work arises, volunteers and the use of expensive equipment at no cost to the club gets the job done. If we had to pay for this work, we probably wouldn't get much done. Also as you can see, it's always the same people involved. Pitch in ! You'll enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done. (Support our workers!).

RANGE NOTES:
The last several years has seen the rifle range in full operation. The expenditure of over $5,000 over the past several years has given us a range to be proud of - however, some of us need to exercise a little more pride and take a stronger share in the ownership of this facility. Please read your "Range Rules" and observe the common-sense rules--especially the rapid-fire ban. We value our neighbors and want to keep them happy. Your indiscriminate machinegun-like firing will surly bring about trouble for the Club. If you witness any untoward actions at the range, please get the license plate number of the offender and report it to the officers or directors. Action will be taken against violators.
Further Range notes--***Please be aware that Range keys may be purchased ONLY at the clubhouse--you will be asked to show proof of membership***
Also, the Board of Directors reminds you that only one guest may accompany you to the range; no walk-ins are allowed; and the $10 key fee only begins to pay for the maintenance of the range--you are responsible for cleaning up after you are done shooting.

ACTIVITIES

ARCHERY - Scott Coffin, Chariman
Our 3-D program failed to get off the ground due to scheduling problems. Our program remains in limbo until and unless the interested parties get together to arrive at a mutually agreeable schedule whereby nearby clubs aren't shooting on the same day. For more information please call Scott at 894-4179

FISH RELEASE - Dale Lewis, Chairman
Once again, last year's release of 500, 8-9 inch Brook and Brown trout stocked Steele's Creek. Give Dale a call (866-0160) to help out with this year's release sometime in mid-May.

PHEASANT RELEASE - Ron Bunce, Chairman
The release of 200 full-grown birds and 80 soft-release birds contributed greatly to local hunter's chances of bagging pheasants. Unfortunately, we have very vew bands being turned in to the club. We known the birds are being taken, but we need to find out "where" they were taken as this helps next year's planned release. Please let us know by turning in the bands or -- call 894-2938 and leave a message--or drop a line to PO Box 177, Ilion 13357 and keep the bands. Also if you know of any areas available for stocking call Ron at 894-2058.

CLAY TARGET SHOOTING - Ed Freedman, Chairman

SKEET - The John P. Brown Memorial Shoot and the Remington Anniversary Shoot were fortunate to be sponsored by Gander Mtn. and Holt Bros. GMC. Please mention this whenever you shop for sporting goods or GM products. Shooters/campers this year will again enjoy electrick hook-ups and the "Mackin water works" will make their stay more enjoyable. Thanks to Gary Blaise and Dave Cooley for maintaining our traps. Also thanks to Gary and Dave and Al Paniccia, Dave Mackin, John Nelson and Ron Bunce for their efforts in the rewiring of field four.

TRAP - Our trap program has been incorporated into our regular Skeet shooting days. If anyone is interested in operating a trap program on Tuesdays, please contact the club at 894-2938.

SPORTING CLAYS - Our 2006 sporting clays league and open shooting started 12/17--but since we'll be shooting for 21 weeks until May, you still have time to sign up for some fun and games. Thanks to Betty Bunce and Karen Freedman and Dave Mackin and Jim Lorraine and their crews for the tasty meals served up last year. Come up and give it a try. We shoot in the woods during the summer--see the board for dates. Thanks to John Latt for clearing up the mud holes on the clays roadway--That TrackHoe is a great machine.

5-Stand Clays - We are now fully automatic, with one trapper pushing the buttons, and the challenge awaits you--every Saturday until May. We have loaner guns and qualified instructors--please feel free to use them.

SPECIAL NOTE - The New York State Moose Club Skeet and Trap Tournament will be held here on Saturday, August 12th, 2006 (open to Moose members only--spectators must have ear and eye protection)

FAIR BOOTH - Rick Bunce, Chairman
Our fifth year with a booth at the Herkimer County Fair was a great success. Our goal to show the club's grounds and programs was met through the hard work of the volunteers who built, set up and manned the booth. We had a great response from the public as witnessed by the outstanding sales of tickets and the sale of 1/2 price memberships. Thank you ! This year's fair dates are from August 15th to August 20th, 2006. The sign-up sheet for those who wish to help out at the booth will be at the June and July general membership meeting.
